I have always had a bit of a fascination with mirrors. Mirrors are often used when testing certain animals to determine if they are self-aware – so the fact that when a human looks at a mirror, sees another being before them and can make the incredible mental leap that that being is both them and not-them, is one of the amazing things that separates us from a lot of the animal world. But at the same time, when one looks in a mirror, the reflection that peers back will not always be familiar.
