Humans vs Zombies is a new Intramural game at Western Carolina University. The game is played similarly to tag, but is played continuously over the course of a week or two. Everyone starts off as a survivor – except for one (the Alpha Zombie). When survivors are tagged by a zombie, they add to the zombie horde making surviving in the game very difficult as survivors’ numbers plummet and the zombies’ numbers rise. The survivors only defense is teamwork, being fast and hitting zombies with sock balls (which stuns them for a short amount of time). Throughout the course of the game, missions are held which survivors must overcome in order to achieve some sort of benefit – all the while, not being eaten by the zombies.
In the Spring Semester of 2010, WCU had three successful Humans vs Zombie games – with hundreds of people playing.
